Volanee puts minors in touch with adults and organizations, so the checks are the product, not a policy page. Here is exactly what is verified, who decides what students may take on, why an hours record cannot be faked — and what we do not claim.
Who can be near a student
An adult is checked before they can work with a minor.
A real, reviewed ID
A government ID is uploaded and read by a person, not a script. The photo is destroyed the moment a decision is made; only the outcome and the legal name are kept, encrypted.
The public sex-offender registry
Every adult who can hire, supervise or accept a minor is searched by name and date of birth against the U.S. Department of Justice registry at nsopw.gov, by hand, and the result is recorded against their account.
Or a check they already hold
Teachers, coaches and hospital staff usually already carry a background check. They upload it and it is reviewed like an ID, with its expiry recorded.
Organizations, before they can post
An organization is verified before it can publish an opportunity or confirm anyone’s hours, and it states in writing that the staff who supervise minors are checked under its own policy.
Who decides
The school says what its students may take on.
Approved in a named person’s name
A counselor approves or blocks each opportunity for their school. Every decision carries their name, the date and an audit record. Blocked opportunities disappear from their students’ search.
A closed list, if the school wants one
One switch limits a school’s students to opportunities it has approved. Left off, students see everything, and each one says whether the school has looked at it.
Never vetted by implication
Opportunities Volanee finds published on an organization’s own website say “Not vetted — listed from their public website” on the card and the page. Silence never reads as approval.
A parent above all of it
A guardian approves the account and every paid job, caps weekly hours, blocks whole categories, and can hide anything nobody has checked.

You cannot sign for yourself
A student’s own address and phone are refused, so is a parent’s, so is another student’s account, and so is anyone signed in as the student when they open the link.
The organization signs, in its own account
A student can ask a verified organization directly. The request lands in that organization’s own Volanee account and no link is created at all, so there is nothing to forward or intercept.
Every record says how it was confirmed
Confirmed by a verified organization, from an organization’s own email address, or from a personal contact — stated on the record, in the school’s dashboard and on every export.
Transcripts anyone can check
Every exported record carries a verification code. An admissions office or a counselor can check it against Volanee without an account.

Counselors see their own students
A counselor can open only students confirmed at their own school. There is no district-wide browsing.
Who looked, and when
Every time a student’s record is opened by their school, it is written to an audit log with the person and the time — so a school can answer the question FERPA actually asks.
Only what the school needs
A school sees that an hour was confirmed and by whom. It is never handed the supervisor’s personal email address or phone number.
Encrypted, and not for sale
Addresses, dates of birth and compliance documents are encrypted before they leave the app. Identifiers in links cannot be guessed or counted up. Volanee does not sell data, and never sells student data.
Being straight about it
What we do not claim.
A registry search is not a full background check
It finds people on the public sex-offender registry. It does not search county criminal records, and we never describe it as a background check. Where a real one exists, the record says so.
We do not certify strangers’ programs
Volanee cannot vouch for an organization it has not verified. That is why the school approves what its own students may take on, and why unchecked listings say so.
Checks reduce risk; they do not remove it
No verification makes an adult safe. Guardian approval, school approval, in-app messaging and a reporting route exist because that is true.
